Novak: GEORGE ALLEN COMEBACK

I know two links to Robert Novak is 2 too many- however he has an interesting tidbit on George Allen.

George Allen, whose Republican presidential dreams were shattered by his upset defeat for re-election to the Senate in 2006, is considering a comeback by running for governor of Virginia in 2009.

I'm also hearing that Attorney General Bob McDonnell is definitely in the race- even if George Allen was to be a candidate. This is all making for a very interesting race in 2009- because I'm not sure in a Republican convention between George Allen and Bob McDonnell that George Allen would come out as the victor.

Allen already on the stump? (Glant - 10/8/2007 7:41:30 AM)
I understand that Allen made an appearance yesterday at Clifton Day, an event that is rapidly becoming a combination of competing political rallies and small crafts fair.

I don't think he was there for the macrame.

Advantage: McDonnell (Kindler - 10/8/2007 5:16:37 PM)
McDonnell is a smooth pol skillful at pushing all the right buttons to make Republicans squeal (you know, like executing street criminals while letting white collar crooks off scot-free).

He also has the advantage of being the fresh young face while George Allen is the dork who lost a formerly safe U.S. Senate seat and managed to embarrass his state, his party and himself in the process.  I'd give the advantage to McDonnell, though I expect that they would beat each other up pretty badly in the process -- not that that's a bad thing...
