George Allen, whose Republican presidential dreams were shattered by his upset defeat for re-election to the Senate in 2006, is considering a comeback by running for governor of Virginia in 2009.
I'm also hearing that Attorney General Bob McDonnell is definitely in the race- even if George Allen was to be a candidate. This is all making for a very interesting race in 2009- because I'm not sure in a Republican convention between George Allen and Bob McDonnell that George Allen would come out as the victor.
I don't think he was there for the macrame.
He also has the advantage of being the fresh young face while George Allen is the dork who lost a formerly safe U.S. Senate seat and managed to embarrass his state, his party and himself in the process. I'd give the advantage to McDonnell, though I expect that they would beat each other up pretty badly in the process -- not that that's a bad thing...
