What's the 411 on Fairfax School Board Races?

I mostly lurk here but I haven't seen much written in the press or on the blogs about Fairfax County school board races.  I see a vast sea of signs for school board candidates but aside from Ilryong Moon and my local unopposed incumbent L. Kaye Kory. I don't recognize the names of any of the candidates.
Mr. Moon most certainly will be getting my vote again -- I think it's important for the school board to reflect the diversity of the county and the community's strong support of public schools. But in the election you choose 3 at large candidate.

So guys who are the book burners, evolution haters versus pro-science, pro-free speech and pro-public school?

School Board races. (Kenton - 10/6/2007 11:39:53 PM)
At-Large:
Chris Braunlich (R)
Ralph Cooper
Paul Constantino (R)
Tina Hone (D) (If it's diversity you're looking for--Hone was born to an African-American mother and a father who fled Yugoslavia)
Steve Hunt (R) -Incumbent
Ilryong Moon (D) -Incumbent
Jim Raney (D)
Christian Volkstorf (IGVA)

Braunlich previously served as School Board rep from Lee District before losing a challenge to State Sen. Toddy Puller (D). The other incumbent is Janet Oleszek, who is challenging Ken Cuccinelli.

Of course, I can't resist a plug for the candidate I work for, Ramona Morrow, a Democrat running in Springfield District. Former president of the Virginia State PTA, she's led on all three levels of government. She will fight to make sure our money is spent on schools, not on No Child Left Behind, which bleeds our system of funds and burdens us with red tape for an unfunded mandate we don't need. Ramona is running against Liz Bradsher, a divisive candidate who, in the words of the South County Chronicle, is "an aggressive partisan who often believes her opinions are the only ones with any validity." Visit our website, and please consider a donation (you knew I was going to say that) to help keep FCPS the great school system it is--without the shackles of George Bush's No Child Left Behind.

Current incumbent Steve Hunt was rebuked for writing all HS principals urging them to consider "ex-gay" speakers and to teach that homosexuality is a choice.

Ooooh, I think I remember that! (Annie - 10/7/2007 5:53:21 PM)
Hunt needs to go then.  BTW what's IGVA, the affilation of the last guy on your list?

IGVA (Kenton - 10/7/2007 9:01:27 PM)
"Independent Greens of Virginia". They're not affiliated with the national Green Party, and really have little in common with them. Their main issue is high-speed rail to everywhere.

Check out the Fairfax County Democratic Committee's website for all our Democratic candidates in Fairfax County including General Assembly, Board of Supervisors, Constitutional Officers, School Board and Soil & Water Conservation Board candidates.

I've heard this as the year when "Everybody runs and nobody votes." Lets make sure that Democrats, like-minded Independents and Republicans for EFFECTIVE government turn out for our candidates. You can do so by volunteering in the remaining 29 days!

Support our candidates by voting for them and more importantly ENSURE VICTORY by volunteering!
