Republican Times-Disgrace on "Cantor's Ace"

Is it April Fools day?  Has the Republican Times-Disgrace Richmond Times-Dispatch suddenly developed a sarcastic, dry sense of humor?  If the answer to these questions is "no," then how does one explain this drivel, which actually credits Eric Cantor for raising Hitler in a debate with Jim Moran over the power and influence of AIPAC.  Eric Cantor has "[scored] an ace?"  No, more like a triple bogey.  Maybe it has to do with the (much needed) disclaimer n the Times-Dispatch's editorial:

..Eric Cantor, the Republican who represents Virginia's 7th Congressional District and whose wife, Diana, serves on the board of directors of Media General, The Times-Dispatch's corporate parent.

No coincidence there, I'm sure.  Next editorial:  how Cantor's opposition to childrens' health funding is actually HELPING children.  Diana Cantor's probably working on it right now.

They already let Cantor lie his way through an explanation of his insane vote.  Oh, those poor, poor tobacco companies who might have to raise prices!  Just goes to show, lobbying works wonders.

Cantor's Position (soccerdem - 10/6/2007 11:35:24 AM)
Personally, I believe Cantor is a disgrace to the Jewish population of this state and country.  His position on SCHIP is abominable, his support of extreme Republicanism atrocious, and his whole attitude antithetical to the traditions of the Jews who are and always have been for social welfare, education, fairness to others, and intolerance.

A brief look at his background shows that his law practice was brief before getting his political holding, and coupled with his wife's corporate positions he is in a favorable financial state to be a true Republican--heedless of the commonweal, heedless of the poor, and interested in keeping in power those who will offer greater and greater tax cuts.  A truer Rush Limbaugh supporter couldn't be created by the Republican mind.

As for AIPAC, in the long run that lobby probably won't matter a whit as far as money for Israel goes, and Israel will always receive the arms it asks for, especially since she has never asked for armed US troops to help her out.  Our population will continue to admire Israel or hate her while either liking, hating or despising Jews in general.  And AIPAC has a right to lobby and buy off politicians at a rate exactly equal to that of the NRA, oil and coal interests, and the defence industry.

Finally, as an aside, I wonder what's the religious right's view on the spy Pollard?  Do they believe that Pollard should be freed?  What comes first, our country, the belief in the Rapture, or Israel?  Even as one who has always supported Israel against Arab incursions, I never for a moment would put Israel ahead of my country, the USA, but I wonder where others of fervently extreme beliefs stand.  After watching Moyers last night, I can easily forecast where the Rapture followers' support would be.

At any rate, to sum it up, Cantor's first name should be Eddie, in light of his conduct.

Meant to say.... (soccerdem - 10/6/2007 4:06:26 PM)
....the traditions of the Jews who are and always have been for social welfare, education, fairness to others, and tolerance.

On the mark, Lowell! (JPTERP - 10/6/2007 1:10:02 PM)
Granted Cantor sets himself up with these ludicrous statements.

When I think of Cantor's line of attack against Moran, coupled with his ridiculous and Constitutionally unprecedented remarks on Chris Matthews regarding the power of generals to effectively "declare war," I have to wonder if Cantor is just good at playing dumb, or if he is in fact, well, not so smart.

I can see why corporate lobbies would want this guy in Congress.  It's not as clear to me why ordinary middle class voters in his district would want this guy in Congress.  What a waste a disgrace.
