Eric Cantor Urges Support for Rush Limbaugh

I ran into this on Americablog a bit ago and thought I should highlight it here. Sadly, the Republican leadership is signing on with Limbaugh.  Eric Cantor (R-VA and Republican Whip) sent an email out yesterday (appears in full below) to rally in support of Rush Limbaugh by signing a "Stand with Rush" petition. (And even sadder, Eric Cantor is my congressman).

Despite his high ranking in the Republican Party, Cantor often flies under the radar, but his is a most despicable record and one that warrants much more attention.
For example, Cantor is featured on the cover of the October 1 issue of the Weekly Standard, under the headline "Young Guns of the House GOP" Fred Barnes wrote the article; here's an excerpt:

"The party has an impressive group of young guns (members under 45) and, fortunately for Republicans, their ranks weren't depleted in the disastrous 2006 election. Of the group, Cantor is furthest along the leadership track. To use a sports analogy, he's the most valuable player."

And along with Cantor's MVP status as a Bush water carrier, let's not forget that Jack Abramoff thought enough of Cantor to name a sandwich after him that was featured in Abramoff's restaurant.

Here's the email Cantor sent regarding the liberal "attack" on Rush:

Subject: Rush Needs Your Support

Friends,

One failure after another, Washington Democrats have built a record of legislative failure; one disappointment after another, Washington Democrats have failed to deliver results to the people who got them there.
This must be why, just nine months into their tenure, the Democrat-led Congress hit an 11% approval rating - that is the lowest in recorded history. Facing their record of failure, Washington Democrats decided to try and distract - and so they took a man's words out of context, then they went on the attack.
That's why I'm encouraging you to click here to "Stand With Rush" and sign this petition.

It is at moments like these when we need to band together as conservatives and fight back.

This issue is bigger than you or me, it is bigger than Rush Limbaugh. With the recent liberal effort to resurrect the "fairness doctrine," we have to recognize that free speech -- conservative free speech is under direct attack. These are issues that speak directly to the core of the modern conservative movement - are we going to allow ourselves to be pushed around by liberal extremists, or are we going to fight back?

I want to send Washington Democrats a message that their attempts to distract aren't working - I stand with Rush Limbaugh against liberal attacks.

Rep. Eric Cantor (R - VA)
Chief Deputy Republican Whip

Support for Rush (soccerdem - 10/5/2007 6:40:17 PM)
Cantor and Rush are jokes now, and only the shut-ins, mentally challenged, information challenged, and I.Q. challenged could believe what Rush says.  Every statement he (and Hannity) utters is absurd.  He/they only speak about what liberals would do if they gained power, or if we were attacked.  But we have seen what Bush and his band of brothers did when we were attacked on 9/11 by those who resided in Saudi Arabia and trained in Pakistan and Afghanistan (and our flight schools)--- we destroyed Iraq, of course.

To support this worthless, lying, propagandistic ball of bullshit is absurd, but Cantor does it.  So just vote against Cantor when the time comes and accept the fact that there will always be idiots who accept the blatant crap that Rush and Sean Hannity spew daily for 5 hours. You can hear their mentally challenged listeners call the next day on C-Span and reiterate what they heard the day before.  As Rush collects his perks from the Republican portion of Amerika (Cuban cigars, gated living, trips to Paris yearly, or better), we must take solace in smaller things, since if there were a God He/She would have consigned Rush to a Dumpster years ago.  The smaller things in which we must rejoice include his addictions to painkillers and lies, his need to grope for ages to relieve himself at a urinal (because he can't see through his belly), his inability to propagate (or, maybe, even have pleasure in that act), and his probable earlier demise than normal due to excess weight and lung smoke.

No denying that he's a force to contend with, since the number of his listeners are enough to swing a very close election.  But this is the trashy part, the underside, if you will, of what we have to live with in a democracy.

It is Irritating (norman swingvoter - 10/5/2007 7:49:59 PM)
As irritating as it is, I am in his district also.  The 7th district seems to take up a large portion of central Virginia.  Basically he is talking to the hardcore wachos in his base, remember he only needs to get 51%.  It would be great to have someone with adequate financing running against him (last time he supposely spent $3,000,000 to $64,000). If nothing else, I figure we can contribute to those in other districts and get satisfaction from having him more and more isolated in Congress.
