Progressive Punch has a new tool to rate members of Congress on how progressive they are.  Here are the Virginia delegation lifetime rankings, with 100 being the most progressive and 0 being the least.  Note that even the supposedly "moderate" Republicans are still highly conservative.

Bobby Scott: 88.73
Jim Webb: 86.64
Jim Moran: 80.16
Rick Boucher: 76.03

Tom Davis: 15.05
John Warner: 12.86
Frank Wolf: 12.42
Virgil Goode: 6.76
Jo Ann Davis: 6.72
Randy Forbes: 4.76
Bob Goodlatte: 4.56
Thelma Drake: 4.12
Eric Cantor: 1.60

And just for fun, here are the presidential candidates:

Hillary Clinton: 91.81
Barack Obama: 90.45
Dennis Kucinich: 87.41
Chris Dodd: 86.84
Joe Biden: 84.40

Ron Paul: 24.14
John McCain:  13.77
Tom Tancredo: 6.92
Sam Brownback: 5.13

Progressive Ratings On Party Line (samrasoul - 10/2/2007 10:08:16 PM)
I was a little surprised to see that the ratings split right across party lines.  The top part of the ratings were all dems, and the bottom all reps.  This shows you how polarized our nation really is.

**that is when you look at the full list (samrasoul - 10/2/2007 10:09:17 PM)

Description of methodology (Sui Juris - 10/2/2007 10:21:44 PM)
here.

Some of this leads to some counterintuitive (to me, anyway) results - Hillary the most progressive of the bunch?  I mean, really . . .  but in any event, it may help to check out that link.

Hillary may be most progressive (MikeSizemore - 10/2/2007 11:57:00 PM)
of those currently serving in Congress, which seems to be part of his criteria.

My word! (legacyofmarshall - 10/3/2007 8:39:16 AM)
Sam Brownback is 4 times more liberal than Eric Cantor!!??

Ouch, ouch, ouch!

I'd also like to point out that if you reversed the ratings, as in, to see who's most conservative, the Democratic delegation scores in the 12-24 range, while in this system, no Republican is above 15 and most score around 5.  I say: c'mon Democrats, be more liberal!

system (Veritas - 10/3/2007 2:09:34 PM)
Well the system is kind of flawed in that it rates them on how much they agreed with a block of "progressive" representatives. It's a good start, but seriously Hillary and Barack more progressive than Kucinich! Maybe a better way would be to see how the congressmen voted on key progressive issues. The current system admittedly does not reward political courage

Last Again (AmerIdiot - 10/3/2007 7:32:44 PM)
Eric Bush Cantor, the worst of a bad bunch.

Lets remember to include that whole name for the next 13 months!!
