Our national debt has just recently surpassed $9 trillion and nearly $4 trillion of that came during the Bush administration.
In the first 225 years of our nation's existence we accumulated about $5 trillion in debt and in the past 6.5 years we have ADDED about $4 trillion!
Our debt has grown by 75% while Bush has been in office and our children will pay for this, quite literally. Talk about taking advantage of those who can't fight for themselves!

Greatest Creditor nation in 1980 to Greatest Debtor Nation Today (Don - 10/2/2007 8:54:45 PM)
Another point that I heard on DemocracyNow was that in 1980, prior to the Reagen administration, the U.S. was the greatest creditor nation, this was after fighting WWI, WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam war and the scores of other wars the U.S. has been involved in. Under Clinton, there where surpluses for as far as the eye could see. The enslavement of our country to this crushing debt was accomplished just the Reagen and Bush administrations.
Risk Increases! (samrasoul - 10/2/2007 9:55:25 PM)
As our debt as a country continues to increase, so does our perceived risk, which makes that debt even more expensive in the future. And with nearly 1/3 of our debt held by entities outside of the US (including Japan, China, and OPEC), we will soon be under the mercy of other capitols. This is leverage gone wild!
Debt on this scale can bring our republic to ruin. (john4_SamRasoul_2008 - 10/3/2007 1:21:10 PM)
Sam Rasoul is standing for Congress (VA-6th-D) in 2008, with my support. Now, some people might say that Sam Rasoul <
http://www.sam2008.c... > is 'a dangerous citizen'. Consider:
"To preserve our independence, we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty, or profusion and servitude." ~ T. Jefferson
"One of the best ways to get yourself a reputation as a dangerous citizen these days is to go about repeating the very phrases which our founding fathers used in the great struggle for independence."
~ Charles A. Beard, historian (1874-1948)
Well, my view is that Sam Rasoul is simply a citizen determined to remain in touch with reality. And I predict that, at first, other Members of Congress will want to have clandestine meetings with Sam. Why? They will want his moral support as they struggle to retain, or regain, contact with the often unpleasant reality that we voters know so well.
Sam and these new associates will slowly be able to make some positive changes. For more information: < http://www.sam2008.c... >
In This Together (samrasoul - 10/3/2007 5:27:25 PM)
It will mine and future generations that feel the pinch of this fiscal mess.
