And, by the way, wasn't it just a couple of weeks ago that the Kilgore campaign was talking about raiding the state's general fund to pay for desperately needed transportation upgrades in our state? Even though the general fund is supposed to pay for everything EXCEPT transportation -- schools, health care, police, state parks, and much more? Great plan, Jerry!
The bottom line is that Jerry Kilgore's plan for transportation is no plan at all, and everybody needs to know that. Fact is, all Kilgore's doing here is pandering, which is what he does best. What Kilgore is NOT doing, of course, is offering REAL solutions for Virginia. Solutions that pass even the most basic of laugh tests. The sad thing is, Virginia's transportation mess is no laughing matter.
Unfortunately, with Jerry Kilgore it's not just transportation that he seems to think is a big joke. It's also education. This Monday, for instance, Kilgore proposed a "major overhaul of teacher pay" in Virginia in order to "pay our teachers better so we can keep them." OK, fine, no argument there. The problem is, Kilgore proposes no way to actually pay for it, citing only "economic growth" as a means of raising the revenues.
Well, hello, earth to Jerry Kilgore, money doesn't grow on trees you know! I mean, where were you when a $1 billion initiative was proposed last year to increase Virginia school funding through cigarette and sales taxes? Oh yeah, I almost forgot, you opposed that one. Whoops! So now, Jerry, don't you think it's a bit hypocritical to pander during political silly season about building roads and increasing teacher's pay, but then to oppose the means for doing so when it actually MATTERS? That's just lame. Pathetic. Weak. Oh yeah, did I mention weak?
Sadly, this is all par for the course for Jerry Kilgore, the spend-spend-spend-and-never-pay-for-it candidate. And don't be too surprised to hear a lot more of this pandering coming from the Kilgore campaign in the weeks and months to come. That's just the Kilgore way. Weak.
