For those of you who grew up in 1980?s, perhaps you remember the oft forgotten Halloween III: Seasons of the Witch (i.e. the one without Michael Myers). Well if you remember this frightening film, it was about an evil corporation mass marketing a Halloween mask made from a chemical they found in Stone Henge that would kill every child in America when they saw an advertisement for it on television on Halloween night. During the film, they test this product on an unsuspecting family, and large insects devour a young boy, eating his face, and then proceed to eat his parents. At the end of the movie, one man (with knowledge of the horror to come) frantically runs around, calling the press, trying to warn them of the impending doom about to befall all of America. In this horrifying moment, the fate of the nation rests in one man?s hands, in a helpless last attempt to stop this maniacal corporation from completing its evil plan!What?s the connection to today, you ask?
Well Jerry Kilgore certainly isn?t going to create a product that will kill you instantly, but like many Democrats in the last 3 major elections of our lives, we have warned the American people of the dangers of electing incompetent, anti-environment, civil liberty-hating, war-mongering enemies of the U.S. Constitution. I have personally spent hours making phone calls on the days before the election, spent days trying to alert the press of rampant corruption, and spent weeks trying to warn the public of the damage to come! Often in these last moments I felt alone, helpless, and panicked. Each time, my heart sunk as the corrupt leaders-to-be made their false promises of unification, and then proceeded to eviscerate the American Dream and turn their backs on the American people.
Perhaps people like Richard Clarke felt this way when trying to communicate with the Bush Administration before 9/11, people like Joe Wilson felt this way trying to communicate with the Pentagon before we waged War in Iraq, and oceanographers and scientists felt this way trying to communicate with FEMA before Hurricane Katrina. It?s as if no one listens, and no one cares until we face disaster and horror and people lose their lives or their livelihood.
Well I am sick and tired of feeling alone, like I am the only one who cares about what life will be like with Jerry Kilgore selling out our kids educations to pork transportation projects, selling out our environment to the highest bidder, and selling out our economy to the Bush Administration and the wealthy corporate lobbyists who are trying to buy this election.
I want all of us to stand up and fight for our Commonwealth and our Country. Mark Warner saved us from financial ruin and returned us to the glory and pride that make Virginia a wonderful place to live.
