NEWPORT NEWS - Democrat John Miller believes he significantly out-raised Republican Tricia Stall in the first fund-raising battle in the race for the 1st Senate District seat because of his broad, bipartisan approach to problem solving.
Republicans say Miller sold out.
The State Board of Elections released financial reports for July and August this week, and the important campaign bellwether shows Miller with a much healthier bank account
Also letters to the editor endorse John because of his stance on education:
Miller for education

We are entering the prime- time election cycle here in the state's 1st Senate District. We have a chance to make an important decision. Do you want a candidate who has vowed to do away with public education, or a candidate who wants to make teachers and students the first priority in our education system?
Why does one candidate make the radical assertion that our public schools, where over 95 percent of our students are educated, need to be abolished? The Republican candidate, Tricia Stall, has signed a pledge to fight to do away with public education. Her own Web site has morphed daily to distance herself from her radical stance, but her name still appears on the Web site of the organization, the Alliance for the Separation of School and State
