Del. Dave Albo has a curious habit. He takes money from special interests as a legislator and then attacks the consequences of his donors' actions as a cynical politician. Months ago, we highlighted the "Albo Cycle" when it comes to Albo, Alcohol, and DWI Defense. Albo takes money from the Alcohol industry pushing bills to sell more alcohol and then he attacks drunk driving. AMG, Cash, Booze & the Albo Cycle (Apr. 15, 2007). When else does Del. Dave Albo play both sides?
Del. Dave Albo prides himself on being "out in front" (or in back depending on your perspective) on illegal immigration. Each year, he introduces bill after bill. For example, last year he introduced the following:
- HB 1970 - Provides that it is a misdemeanor to be in the United States in violation of federal law;
- HB 2435 - Provides that a person in the United States illegally cannot be domiciled in Virginia for legal purposes; and our favorite
- HB 1906 - Creates a civil cause of action (for Albo's law firm) for any fired employee to sue their employer for wages and attorney's fees if, at the time they are fired, the employer employed an "unauthorized alien."
There are many other bills from prior years. And who can forget this Albite:
My original intent was to get every single person who is here illegally,' Albo said. Richmond-Times Dispatch (4/25/04).
So what does our hero do when a big Virginia corporation (Smithfield Foods) that actually employs undocumented workers comes with its checkbook?
HE TAKES THEIR MONEY OF COURSE - $2750 OF IT
That's right. On May 16, 2007, Del. Dave Albo accepted a $1,000 campaign contribution from Smithfield Foods (CLICK HERE). He took another $1,000 in May, 2006, $500 in 2005, and $250 in 2003.
RETURN THE MONEY DELEGATE - ALL OF IT
