Multiple unofficial sources are reporting that Senator John Warner will officially announce tomorrow whether or not he intends to run for his sixth term.  The announcement will reportedly be held at 2pm in Charlottesville... hmmm.

Greg Sargent:

A Warner retirement, obviously, would be huge news, potentially making the 2008 Senate map look even better for the Dems. Many analysts think that such a move would open a clear path to the seat for another Virginian named Warner -- this one a Dem named Mark.

The queue for speculation forms to the left.

Mark not John (The Grey Havens - 8/30/2007 1:56:35 PM)
c'mon John Warner!

You've been disappointing us for months with your double coy acts on Iraq and whether or not you'll run.

Let Mark Warner step up!  It's time.

More Exciting than College Football?? (code - 8/30/2007 2:11:59 PM)
Yes!!

80-20 on retirement (Carrington - 8/30/2007 2:34:29 PM)
Although the Rotunda would be a great back drop for a "I'm not done fighting yet" speech...

Yeah... C'ville is for photo ops (The Grey Havens - 8/30/2007 3:17:19 PM)
Remember, Clinton started his Inaugural day in Charlottesville, because of all the history.

I'm trying to put my head in PR mode, and this makes me think it's more likely he'll retire.

Charlottesville is an historical town, Jefferson, Monticello, Lewis and Clark.

I think John Warner is history.

Good thinking... (Carrington - 8/30/2007 3:20:30 PM)
Purple shadows are good for wistful reflection on the dreams of youth and a career well-spent.  85-15.

Good backdrop for a historic announcement... (Rob - 8/30/2007 3:53:45 PM)
and announcing re-election isn't that historic.

John Warner knows he is tarnished. (buzzbolt - 8/30/2007 3:50:32 PM)
A man with one hell of a resume in public service, John Warner now knows that he has been tarnished by years of loyalty to a failed presidency.  He knows that he was much too late to admit the overwhelming catastrophes of the Iraq war.

I believe that he will announce his retirement and spend the final months of his career serving as an independent, moderate, and thoughtful advocate for his favorite constituency, the U. S. Armed Forces.

who steps up (Veritas - 8/30/2007 4:41:15 PM)
If Mark Warner runs which seems like a very good possibility, who will his republican challenger be and if its Tom Davis what does this mean for the open 11th congressional seat?

I suggest the Republicans give Representative Thelma Drake the nod... (dsvabeachdems - 8/30/2007 8:23:50 PM)
please.

I will be All Ears tommorrow afternoon... (mikeporter - 8/30/2007 9:42:27 PM)
to see if the press leaks the contents (of the speech) beforehand...or to listen to the 2pm announcement.
