What we should have heard today from Alberto Gonzalez - WITH APOLOGIZES TO MICHAEL VICK - who did accept responsibility for his actions today:
-------------------------------------------------
"First I want to apologize for the all the things that I've done and have allowed to happen. I want to personally apologize to the American People, the US Congress, and especially all of the true professionals at the Department of Justice.

"In the previous appearances before Congress and in public and private discussions that we had, I was not honest and forthright in our discussions. I was ashamed and totally disappointed in myself, to say the least.

"I want to apologize to all the young kids out there for my immature acts. What I did was very immature, so that means I need to grow up.

"I totally ask for forgiveness and understanding as I move forward to bettering Alberto Gonzales the person, not the Attorney General.

"I take full responsibility for my actions. Not for one second will I sit right here and point the finger and try to blame anybody else for my actions and for what I have done. I am totally responsible. Those things just didn't have to happen.

"We all make mistakes. I made a mistake and used bad judgment and making bad decisions. Those things just can't happen.

"For this entire situation I never pointed the finger at the President or any other Republican I accept the responsibility for my actions and what I did. Now I have to pay the consequences for it. In a sense, I think it will help me as a person. I have a lot to think about over the next year or so.

"I offer my deepest apologies to everybody out there in the world who was affected by this whole situation.

"If I'm more disappointed with myself about anything, it's because I've let down the American people, who look at the Attorney General as a role model. I hope that every young kid out there?can use me as an example, to use better judgment and make better decisions.

"Once again, I offer my deepest apologies to everyone. I will redeem myself. I have to. I got a lot of down time, a lot of time to think about my actions and what I've done, and how to make Alberto Gonzales a better person. Thank you."

a lot of time to think (ScottCoDemocrat - 8/28/2007 12:58:21 PM)
Gonzales should do his thinking the same place that Vick will be doing his -- Federal Prison.  But I know that is really not likely to happen.  It seems to me that the former AG could learn a lot from the quarterback.
