My Last Plea: Mark Warner for Governor

Governor Warner will likely be announcing his intentions for 2008 or 2009 in a couple weeks- so I thought I would post this video his PAC put together when he was still running for President:

You can't do any of that as 1 of 100 in the Senate.

I hope it is for the Senate... (mikeporter - 8/25/2007 11:32:22 AM)
I would love to see a VA DEM trifecta after being a REP trifecta as late as January 2002.  VA has not had a DEM trifecta since January 1970.  The DEM Party of VA is due.  I feel sure Mark Warner for U.S. Senate 2008 would guarantee us a trifecta.  M. WARNER 2008!!!

It would be short-lived (Va Blogger - 8/25/2007 6:39:09 PM)
Without Mark Warner, Bob McDonnell would be extremely strong in the Governor's race in 2009.

I agree with James (DanG - 8/25/2007 2:44:54 PM)
I would much rather keep control of the Governor's seat than take another Senate seat.  And hell, if it is Jim Gilmore we're facing rather than Tom Davis, I think we got a shot with somebody other than Mark.  Save Gov. Warner for the seat that will REALLY matter when redistricting comes around!

But what about the Mrs.? (vadem - 8/25/2007 4:07:14 PM)
I don't disagree with you Dan.  I'd like to hold the Gov. seat, too.  But its no secret that Ms. Collis does not want to live in Richmond or in the Executive Mansion.  If Mama ain't happy, nobody's happy.

Senate is Better (K - 8/26/2007 10:16:39 AM)
Imagine if the Democrats picked up another seat in the Senate! That would benefit Virginia and the whole country ... more than whatever bit Warner could do in four years in Virginia.

you don't (novademocrat - 8/26/2007 10:42:07 AM)
think making sure redistricting is fair in 2011 is more important than anything he could do in the senate???  I tend to disagree.

I'll be honest, I am torn between what I think he should do.

"Fair"? (Va Blogger - 8/26/2007 11:23:41 AM)
Let's not kid ourselves here. The Democratic agenda is to gerrymander the seats to favor them. They can only hope to reproduce the success the Republican Party had doing the same thing.

Its funny to note, however, that the Democrats had control in 1990 and gerrymandered the state to favor them, forcing together parts of the 7th district and the 10th district. The 10th was represented by Frank Wolf, and the 7th was represented by George Allen. Allen ruled out challenging Wolf to the seat, and therefore retired from Congress, freeing him up to run for Governor, which of course allowed him to become a Senator at the end of his term.

So in addition to hoping to reproduce the success of Republicans in 2000, they're also hoping to not do anything like they did in 1990 to help the GOP.

Warner is, first and foremost, an excellent manager (Randy Klear - 8/26/2007 12:32:25 PM)
and those management skills would be wasted in the Senate.  He would be far more valuable as governor.
