The Blowout of the Century

Chap Petersen continues to impress - It takes A LOT of work to knock on 15,000 doors (and we're not even to Labor Day yet!)
"So far we have knocked on almost 50,000 doors ," Petersen said. "I've done nearly one-third of that on my own. That is our primary way of meeting voters, learning from them, and convincing them to vote for us. That grass-roots campaigning is what will win this race."
The 2003 race for this seat saw about 43,000 votes and the margin was a little more than 2,000 votes.

No question, the guy's a maniac on the doors. He has a work ethic like no one I have ever known. Going to pay off big in November is my opinion.
The Senate Will Be the Better for It (The Grey Havens - 8/24/2007 1:21:24 PM)
Chaps real work will be in the Senate. That chamber is crumbling, and he'll do whatever hard work is necessary to build a solid future for all Virginians.
And he's a Natural (k8 - 8/24/2007 5:46:17 PM)
Chap is a natural born polititian if ever I've seen one! He loves what he does; that's how he can manage to do so much.
Keep it up, Chap. When you win, we'll all win!
Blowout of the Century ? Of the 15K knocked, % for Chap ? Polls ? (Tom Counts - 8/24/2007 3:17:26 PM)
Let's not get too overconfident here. Several local HOD Dem. candidates two years ago knocked on more than 20,000 doors and now have great name recognition and those candidates really connected with the voters they met. Is that happening with Chap and his volunteers? We all know how good Chap's professional incumbent opponent is at what she does to get elected, and how she leverages off of her popularity, deserved or not (usually not). With her large incumbency, popularity and (I think) financial advantages I'd be very interested to know what sort of response Chap is getting when he knocks on doors as well as the response his volunteers are getting when he's not with them.
As just an aside, I have to say that it seems a little egotistical on Chap's part to say that he has knocked on 30% of the 50K doors "on his own" ! In her HOD campaign last year Jeanette Rischell knocked on more doors herself than Chap has knocked on "on his own". He needs to start giving his volunteers and campaign staff a little credit -- no candidate ever wins "on his own". Better change the tone ASAP, Chap.

Oh, come on (cvllelaw - 8/24/2007 4:46:00 PM)
Don't you think he gives credit to his campaign when he makes it clear that 2/3 of the doors were knocked on by someone else?
All he's saying is that the campaign has knocked on 50,000 doors, and he's knocked on 15,000. Those are impressive numbers. Stop trying to piss on them.
Correction: Jeannette's knocked on doors last year, not teo years ago. (Tom Counts - 8/24/2007 3:23:33 PM)
Sorry for the error. Jeanette ran in a special election last year for the open HOD seat after the incumbent Harry Parish died.
