We here in Virginia Beach are very jazzed up with our House races. It's looking very good that we pick up at least two seats this November with Joe Bouchard running for an open seat in the 83rd and Bobby Mathieson running against the hapless "Doc" Welch in the 21st. These will be very close races; every vote will count.
House Democratic Caucus Chairman and Delegate Brian Moran will join us at VB Dems for a live blog TODAY, Friday, August 24 starting at 3:00 pm to hopefully not only discuss our Virginia Beach house races, but also those issues that voters are already aligning with Democrats over.
It's been awhile since our last live blog so just to refresh your memory on how this works. Post your questions as comments here starting now and up through the live blog on Friday. Then join us Friday at 3:00 if you can - although not required to participate. That is when Brian joins us live to answer those questions posted. Comprende?

Taxes Are the Price we All Pay to Live in a Civilized Society (Matt H - 8/24/2007 2:29:58 PM)
Hi Brian:
My subject line was taken from a quote from the great Justice, Oliver Wendell Holmes, and it's as applicable today as it was in the early 1900's.
Why is our state leadership so afraid to explain to the public why taxes are really an investment in our shared future? For example, instead of raising taxes to help support better transportation for all, we are selling off our bought and paid for highways to private companies to run and profit from. I'm thinking about HOT lanes here. Not only are we handing on a silver platter what's public to private interests, but we are footing the financing at below market rates. This is unfair and extremely short-sighted.
I know that the transportation developers give to both Republicans and Democrats, but why not shun their "help" and go at the problem with taxes - public roads have been the cornerstone to our country's growth since the just after the revolution, and include major projects from the old post roads, the Cumberland Gap national road, to route 66, etc.
Thanks.
