White House front group to target ..... Republicans?

It appears the GOP is in freefall, and it happened literally over one afternoon. We have been given not one but two gifts from the GOP today. First off, I see the headline on my AOL screen being a picture of Bush comparing Iraq with ... Vietnam. (???!!!???) That's not going to help him in the polls, that's for sure. Secondly, I receive this e-mail from Americans United for Change which I couldn't believe. It ends up that there is this new group called Freedom's Watch run by former White House spokesperson Ari Fleisher to whip up support for the surge while denigrating Democrats who oppose it. You can watch the ads here. Here's the kicker: it's not targeting Democrats all that much, but rather Republicans.
"These ads, being run by a White House supported front group, are swift boating Republicans - squeezing from the right the same Republicans who are feeling the heat from voters back home for their support for Bush's failed war policy ," said Brad Woodhouse, President of Americans United for Change. "The White House is eating its own in a desperate move to preserve the President's failed policy in Iraq."
Virginia is not being spared. Ari and friends are spending nearly half a million dollars to go after those left wing crazies John Warner and Tom Davis. I tell you I think the world has now officially turned upside down.

could happen to a more deserving group of phonies.
What??? (AmerIdiot - 8/23/2007 1:19:34 AM)
I don't buy this.
Is it a cynical Rovian ploy to give the creeps on the list cover for backing the Worst President Ever?
They already have the kool-aid drinkers votes, will this help them with the independents?
Saxby Chambliss? Come on, this bull.
Here's a list of people on the target list. 90% of them are Republicans (beachmom - 8/22/2007 10:30:51 PM)
If they could count on their votes come September, they wouldn't have targeted them, would they have?

They're worried about Saxby Chambliss?
They're worried about Minority Leader Mitch McConnell? (beachmom - 8/22/2007 10:33:25 PM)
They're targeting their own point guy in the Senate?
Tell Tom Davis Today That There's No Cover to Run For (jsrutstein - 8/23/2007 5:54:20 AM)
To the extent the unfortunately named anti-"escalation" group affliated with moveon.org and its Iraq Summer program makes its presence felt targeting virtually the same list of Republicans, the new well-funded but hardly grassroot pro-surge effort [can we please call it the Ari Fleischer project, please, pretty please?] is targeting, the targeted pols won't be able to avail themselves of any "cover." However they vote next month, they'll be making a clear choice.
This makes it all the more important to attend, if you can, today's event with Tom Davis (details below), or at least e-mail your thoughts to virginia4@iraqsummer.org.
I think most anti-Bush war policy events are scheduled for Aug. 28. Google Americans Against Escalation in Iraq for more info.
Here are the details on today's event with Tom Davis.

Warner? (David Campbell - 8/23/2007 2:35:04 PM)
Another great post, beachmom.
Sen. John Warner won't bow to pressure, especially if he is planning to retire at the end of his term as expected. This may actually push him in the opposite direction to vote for withdrawal.
